Environmental Biotech Project

This project was quite heavy for us who were taking our final year project during the previous semester. We were required to make a 3D scrapbook of the waste processing center. Together with my three group members, we distributed the work and did our parts at home. After that, we brought our models to the campus, coloured them and combined them together to make it into a complete piece. Fortunately there weren't much conflicts and the project turned out to be better than expected. At the end of the day, I'm proud of us and I think we are all eligible to be an art student =)

We borrowed one of the labs to complete our project. We aren't allow to enter the labs if we are not doing any experiment or research in there but since the lab assistant didn't chase us out, we stayed until we completed everything and it took us two days. I actually thought we need to spend weeks to finish it.

This is our mini recycling center with a lot of machines and all that. We made it as colourful as possible so that it looked attractive. The factory was divided into sections to recycle four different types of waste such as paper, glass, metal and plastic.

I was responsible in making this part which is the paper recycling section.

Farewell Dinner

Hi, it's me again. We had our final year farewell dinner during May. Actually it was the seniors' farewell dinner but we joined them anyway since my friend, N and I were just one semester behind because we were the only third intake students taken in in 2010 for the course of biotechnology. Well, our situations are kinda complicated. Anyway, the dinner was worth to go and we enjoyed ourselves as they organised events like different kinds of students' and lecturers'  awards, prom king and queen of the night, lucky draw as well as singing and dancing events which kept us entertained throughout the night.

The Last Sampling Trip of the Semester

This is a post which I'd missed out and almost being forgotten. I went to Bako National Park for my last sampling trip during February. My friend and I went there for 2 days 1 night while the rest of the zoology students stayed there for a week. We got there by boat and it took us 15-20 minutes to reach the island.

     
Riding the boat was an exciting experience when there were waves. It was more like riding on a horse I guess =D The weather was fine when we arrived at our destination.

     
We set up the tents but we didn't have the chance to sleep in it because it rained quite heavily that night and the tents were flooded. Here goes the long story: Our tents were flooded and we had no place to sleep. Then there's an abandoned old wooden cabin just beside the place where we collected our samples but it was locked. The daring guys banged and hit and kicked the door with all their might until the wooden door broke into pieces and collapsed. I was like, "Oh my, isn't this vandalism?" but thanks to them, we had somewhere to sleep.

Surprisingly, the inside of the cabin was small although the cabin itself looks big from the outside. An abandoned house is expected to be dusty with spider webs everywhere right? So we did some cleaning before we could go to sleep. We had to squeezed ourselves while sleeping on the floor, with the 7 of us (girls). I didn't sleep well because the mosquitoes were bloody starving and they didn't care if you had a thick layer of insect repellent on your skin or not. So yeah..the next day, my arms and legs were covered with red bumps. When I recalled back, I find it funny and interesting. I guess such experience would only happened once in my life.

The next morning, we were greeted by baby wild boars! They got their way through the fence and came digging the ground of the camping site for food. Luckily they were harmless.

After breakfast, my friend and I sneaked out of the camping site and went for a walk. We had to leave the island in the afternoon so we put our work aside and had a look around first. We met the monkeys, a huge family of them from baby monkeys to great grandpa monkeys (with long white beard). The monkeys at Bako are famous for their...snatching ability. They snatch whatever which appears to be food to them. I was cautious at first and kept a distance from them but when I took out my camera and went closer towards them, they ran away. They were camera shy perhaps? Proboscis monkeys can be found there too but what a pity that we didn't see any of them.

    

This is the swampy area with dead mangrove trees. What a sight, it looks like the place where witches or villains usually live (in cartoons).

Those were the same baby wild boars which dug the ground that morning. Mama wild boar was calling them back.

    

There are many gigantic rocks on the beach. They are beautiful and that's what makes the beach unique.

There're other hiking trails which will lead us to the top of the cliff where we can watch the ocean but too bad we didn't have the time to go. I'm sure there're many other interesting things to see. I will definitely go there again, for vacation of course. Anyway, this post ends here. Thanks for reading~

P .C day 25: Something Pink

Like I said, I've run out of inspiration >.<

Je suis rose (yay, I've just learned the colours in French =D).

Mr B said, "You look so serious. No need to be so serious, relax. You'll have to do your project in the lab for one year (it's 7 months to be exact)".

Thanks for pointing out. When I'm very busy, there's this 20% of grumpy & 80% of serious look on my face which read, "don't disturb me because I'm working like there's no tomorrow".

A reminder to self: take it easy.

Unforgettable

Here are some photos taken during my sampling field trip.

In case you're interested, this is what I'm doing:

I'm doing a research on a bacteria species which causes food poisoning in humans and I have to get the bacteria samples from soil, water and small animals. So I followed the zoology students into the jungle to accomplish my mission.

The sampling site is a recreational park which took us 6 hours to reach from our campus.

The "victims" caught. Don't worry, we'd already let them go which means that there was no killing of animals =)

I always thought that bats are scary because they always appear in horror movies. After having a close contact with them, I realized that they're actually cute (when they don't bite of course because some of them were very aggressive). See the fierce-looking bat below? Its expression read, "If you touch me, I'll bite your fingers off."

This fruit bat looks like a squirrel, doesn't it? *aww*

I couldn't say that I enjoyed the trip because I didn't have enough sleep. But it is indeed an interesting and unforgettable trip which I might only experience once or twice in a lifetime~

P.C Day 21

P.C day 21: Faceless portrait

Time is chasing after me to keep me running ahead. Or should I say I'm chasing after the time to catch up with it? Oh Mr/Ms time is running so fast and waits for no one.

I've been very busy with the proposal for the final year project. There are a lot of things which I need to prepare for the sample collection field trip as well as the processing and analyzing of samples. The laboratory will soon become my second home. 

So I'm here to announce that I will be very inactive in this blog for the months to come until next year. Maybe I can only write less than three posts in a month. Maybe I'll just post photos/pictures with just a few lines of sentences. It all depends how much time I can spare in blog writing.

P.C Day 12

P.C day 12: Sunset

Luckily there's only sunset photo challenge and no sunrise photo challenge. Imagine waking up around 5.30a.m just to wait for the sunrise, no..I won't be able to make it. I prefer having my beauty sleep ^__^

I didn't take a proper sunset photo because this photo was taken from the window of my room. What I mean by proper sunset is when the you can see the setting sun kissing the horizon. I will make that kind of photo one day so I have to start looking for a perfect spot (other than beaches) to snap photos of beautiful sunset =)

With a little help of Photoshop to make the photo to have a better contrast, it looks like fire is burning the sky~ 

Oh, I did it again. Writing a blog post in the middle of the night. Argh..it's already the 4th of September! Hopefully I can settle a lot of things this week, the online course registration system is such a pain in the ass. Registering for the courses is like the situation when there's a clearance sale and everyone is rushing into the shop to grab the things that they want. Because the crowd is huge, the customers are stuck at the doorway and they'll have to squeeze themselves through. If you reach there just a little bit later, you'll realize that most of the things are already sold out. Yep, that's how I feel every semester when the course registration period opens. I'd grabbed two of the courses which I'm very interested in: Japanese level 1 and French level 1. Please please please don't clash with the lab practical sessions.

This shall Pass

Summary of the hectic week:

• Fallen ill for about 3 days x.x
• Medicine are like sleeping pills. They made me sleep more than i should which is bad because please refer to the third and fourth points.
• 2 assignments were given with only a week to complete (・︵・)
• Final examination
• The manual car which I've always driven was suddenly dead one day before the final exam (╥﹏╥)

Shit always happens during the busiest moment but believe that everything will be over soon and that you can get through it.

Oh wait, it's not the end of the post yet.

I'm grateful that the medicine did their magic tricks on me and I'm feeling a lot better already. I'm glad that I was able to complete and submit the assignments before the deadline although i think that I'd written a lot of nonsense in it *phew* I managed to overcome the fear of driving an auto car to my campus this morning to sit for the final exam because I only have one time experience in driving auto cars. It's a relief that the questions in the exam paper are not something for aliens to read and answer. Well, at least I'd managed to answer the questions but whether I'd answered them correctly is another matter. And lastly, I'm officially having my semester break for about 3 weeks, yay!! There are so many things that i plan to do~

Back for a While

If my blog is a garden, it must have over-grown with weeds that reach my knee by now. For the past few months, uncountable brain cells had been reported dead, r.i.p. The remaining ones managed to survive and will be fighting for the final exam with me. Are they considered as lucky for being the survivors or are they considered as pathetic for having to go to the battlefield? So yea..two weeks later, i'm going to visit the exam hall for 9 times reluctantly like anybody else who dislikes exams as much as i do. I hope that i can quickly get over with it and good bye, semester three.
